Object 0

Object 0 is a postmortem transport table with a logistical function, dating from the 1960s. It points to a mechanical mclinical infrastructurean instrument within a system that manages death. Yet it also carries the memory of thousands of bodies—an actively charged absence reserved for each of us. For me it serves as a non religious form of end-of-life guidance. On a subconscious level, it echoes Nietzsche’s Die Geburt der Tragödie—but now aus dem Geiste des Metalls. Object 0 is een postmortale transporttafel met logistieke functie, afkomstig uit de jaren zestig. Object 0 verwijst in alles koud en zakelijk naar de klinische infrastructuur van onze begrafeniscultuur. Maar de tafel draagt ook de herinnering van duizenden lichamen—een actief geladen afwezigheid, gereserveerd voor ieder van ons. Voor mij fungeert Object 0 als een niet-religieuze vorm van stervensbegeleiding. Op een onbewust niveau resoneert het met Nietzsche’s Die Geburt der Tragödie*, maar nu uit de geest van het metaal.
